Preventative maintenance costs less than waiting

Preventative gutter maintenance is generally easier and less expensive than waiting for clogged gutters, water problems or drainage issues to develop. A plan does not guarantee that gutters or drains will never clog; the goal is to reduce buildup and keep the system serviced at appropriate times throughout the year.

  • Help keep gutters and above-ground downspouts maintained throughout the different seasons in Northern New Jersey.
  • Help prevent clogged gutters, overflowing gutters, and heavy debris buildup.
  • Provide scheduled spring, summer, fall, and late-fall gutter cleaning depending on the plan selected.
  • Especially helpful for homes with heavy tree coverage that may need gutter cleaning more than once or twice per year.
  • Help prevent customers from waiting until gutters are already clogged or overflowing before scheduling a cleaning.
  • Regular gutter maintenance helps protect the roofline, fascia, soffit, siding, landscaping, and foundation from unnecessary water exposure.
  • Helps reduce the amount of leaves and debris that can travel through the downspouts and into underground drainage systems.
  • Especially important for homes with underground downspout drains, where preventing debris from entering the system can help reduce the chance of more difficult and expensive underground drain clogs.
  • Multiple scheduled cleanings allow us to identify obvious gutter, downspout, or drainage problems before they potentially become larger repairs.
  • Predetermined service months make gutter maintenance easier because customers do not have to remember when to schedule each cleaning.
  • Customers save money on each gutter cleaning compared with their regular one-time cleaning price.

When to Consider a Gutter Cleaning Plan

A gutter cleaning plan is usually worth considering when any of the following apply:

  • Home has trees nearby and gutters regularly collect leaves, sticks, seeds, roof grit, or other debris.
  • Gutters need to be cleaned multiple times throughout the year.
  • Gutters have clogged or overflowed between previous cleanings.
  • Homeowner is unsure how often their gutters should be cleaned.
  • Property has heavy tree coverage and needs spring, fall, or late-fall gutter cleaning.
  • Different types of trees drop debris at different times of the year, making one annual cleaning insufficient for many properties.
  • Downspouts connect to underground drainage and the homeowner wants to reduce the amount of debris entering the underground drain lines.
  • Homeowner has experienced clogged downspouts or underground drainage problems in the past.
  • Gutters are difficult or unsafe for the homeowner to access and they want professional maintenance automatically scheduled.
  • Homeowner does not want to remember to call and schedule gutter cleaning every season.
  • Homeowner wants us to monitor the gutter system regularly and identify obvious gutter, downspout, or drainage problems during scheduled visits.
  • Homeowner wants to save money compared with scheduling individual gutter cleanings throughout the year.
  • We generally recommend 2 to 3 gutter cleanings per year for many Northern New Jersey homes.
  • Properties with heavier tree coverage or longer leaf-drop seasons may benefit from 4 to 5 scheduled visits.

Gutter Cleaning Plan Questions

How often should gutters be cleaned in Northern New Jersey?

We generally recommend at least 2 to 3 gutter cleanings per year for many Northern New Jersey homes. Properties with heavy tree coverage, pine needles, seed pods, or longer leaf-drop seasons may benefit from 4 to 5 cleanings per year. The right schedule depends more on the property and surrounding trees than a one-size-fits-all rule.
Spring and fall are important gutter-cleaning periods, but some properties need additional summer and late-fall service. Different trees drop leaves, seeds, pollen, needles, and other debris at different times, which is why our plans have predetermined service periods throughout the year.
We offer four levels based on the amount of maintenance the property needs: Essential with 2 visits, Silver with 3, Premier with 4, and VIP with 5. We recommend choosing based on tree coverage, debris, roof and gutter layout, past clogging, underground drainage, and how quickly the gutters typically fill.
Essential members save $20 per cleaning, Silver members save $50 per cleaning, Premier members save $60 per cleaning, and VIP members save $70 per cleaning compared with their regular one-time cleaning price.
They can be especially valuable for heavily wooded properties. Instead of waiting for the gutters to clog or overflow, multiple scheduled visits help remove debris at different points throughout the year. Properties surrounded by mature trees may need more frequent cleaning than homes with little tree coverage.
We especially recommend regular gutter maintenance for homes with underground downspout drainage. Keeping leaves and debris out of the gutters and above-ground downspouts helps reduce the amount of material that can eventually enter the underground drain lines, where clogs can become more difficult and expensive to correct.
No. Once you select a plan, NJHMS places your property on our recurring schedule for the predetermined service periods included with that plan. We schedule the visits and contact you before service, so you don’t have to remember to call us every season.
No. Gutter cleaning is performed outside, so customers normally do not need to be home. We contact customers before their scheduled service, and Premier and VIP members receive before-and-after service photos.
While cleaning, our technicians visually check for obvious problems with the gutters, downspouts, fascia, soffit, and drainage system. We document issues we find, and our office can provide a separate detailed estimate when additional repairs or services are recommended.
No. We never promise that gutters, downspouts, or underground drains will remain clog-free between visits. Weather, storms, surrounding trees, roof debris, and other conditions can cause new buildup at any time. The purpose of a maintenance plan is preventative maintenance: to reduce buildup and keep the system serviced at appropriate times throughout the year.
Yes. During the gutter cleaning, we remove loose debris from the gutters, clear accessible above-ground downspouts and gutter outlets, and flush the gutter system when water is available and conditions allow. Flushing an above-ground downspout does not include cleaning or flushing the underground drainage pipe connected to it.
